Meals: Nutrition & Menus

We hold a Gold award with the Heart Foundations Healthy Heart Award programme. This shows how our centres have woven healthy eating and physical activity practices sustainably into all aspects of our environment as well as engaging our community. The Healthy Heart Award recognizes that we have created and nurtured an environment that promotes healthy eating and physical activity

Examples of our programme in practice includes

NUTRITION AND PHYSICAL

Nutrition and physical activity policies that include birthdays, celebrations, professional development and resource funds, staff role modelling, nutrition and daily physical activity education, screen use and breastfeeding procedures or guidelines

LUNCHBOX GUIDELINES

Lunchbox guidelines for children transitioning to school and how we support our parents and whānau to ensure that they provide many every day and sometimes options, and discourage occasional foods, provide support and ongoing education for our parents and whānau

LEARNING EXPERIENCES

A 4 -week menu with learning experiences on healthy eating and physical activity which are documented through our learning stories, also how we demonstrate staff collaboration, child’s voice and parent/whānau engagement

HEALTHY EATING

We promote healthy eating and physical activity through Educa, our Facebook page, parent’s libraries, display boards, and parents evenings, 

*Research shows that what children eat in the early years is closely linked with their food preferences and dietary habits later in life. This also means, that setting up healthy eating habits in early childhood goes a long way to preventing life-style diseases.
